Abstract

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fast-progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects superior and inferior motor neurons. The initial age of this disease is between 51 and 66 years old, with a survival mean between 24 and 50 months since the beginning of symptoms, being more common in men with a 1:5 relation.

The treatment of ALS is primarily given because of the symptom management and palliative care through a multidisciplinary team. The clinical case presented is a masculine patient with 73 years old that shows voice and swallowing disorders, with a fast evolution of progressive paralysis, passing away one year after diagnosis.

In Otorhinolaryngology is important to take account the diagnosis of this pathology, in those patients that consults with disorders related to the voice and swallowing disorders without apparent cause or evident morphologic chances in physical exams, that justify that symptomatology.
