Abstract

We present the case of a one-year-old male patient, diagnosed with cleft lip alveolar, treated by the maxillary orthopedic service with lip approximation tape therapy and a dynacleft-type nasal elevator, while the parents received monitoring and cognitive behavioral therapy by the psychologist.

The patient was fed directly to the mother’s womb after the second day of age and his growth evaluation was monitored by the Nutrition service before and after lip closure, which was performed at 4 months of age, obtaining z-score results of weight / height, weight / age, length / age, head circumference between 1 and -1 SD (according to WHO tables), with temporary indication of indirect breastfeeding for postoperative care.

At the time of returning to the mother’s womb and continuing with the usual form of breastfeeding, immediate attachment was not possible, initiating a supplementation protocol with a 12 ml monoject 412 syringe, blunt tip, achieving direct breastfeeding successfully.

The monojet technique as a supplement is an option to return to the mother’s womb a baby who must suspend or switch to indirect breastfeeding temporarily.
