Application of interdisciplinary orofacial exploration protocol for adults patient in musical education student from Escuela Superior de Música (ESM) of Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango (UJED)

Abstract

Introduction: The importance of knowing the orofacial characteristics of the singing students is of great nature, since they intervene in their vocal performance, the assessment of this will help to know more about the care that should be given to the sung voice. Materials and Methods: Qualitative, descriptive, observational, retrospective study. 15 students of the Escuela Superior de Música were evaluated in the year 2017 in a period of six months, by means of the Protocol of initial interdisciplinary orofacial exploration for adults. Data analysis was performed by SPSS 20 program for Windows 10. Results: Of the 15 students assessed, a percentage of 13.3% was estimated with bilateral partial collapse of the nostrils, of this population 33.3% cannot touch their palate with the tongue, the 26.7% had a Class II / 2 malocclusion, and 60% had a teething. Discussion and Conclusion: Orofacial alterations were identified, them might cause vocal discomfort while singing. By applying new protocols, we expect to bring a new perspective to the singer’s characterization.
